Heck, if keeping 1,000 troops there forever would prevent what will likely


happen then I say so be it. According to a wiki article I just found we have 170,000 troops abroad, and these are the first 1,000 president unmatched wisdom needs to bring home? Who are the soldiers in Germany protecting? The 1,000 were not doing significant fighting. We were not in the middle of a bloody battle. Their presence and the implied threat of intervention in case somebody else (cough cough Turkey, Russia, Syria) escalated things is what was keeping the area (relatively) quiet.
